Privacy policy

Last updated October 2026

The short version

We do not ask you for your name, your email address or anything else about you. There is no account to create and no newsletter to join. The only information collected is the ordinary, anonymous kind that any website and any advertiser collects, and you can turn most of it off.

What we collect ourselves

We record which listings people open, which outbound links they click, and which of the “have you been here” buttons they press. This is stored without any identifier that points at a person. We use it to work out which parts of the guide are useful and which need improving.

Your browser also stores a small amount of information on your own device to remember those button presses. It never leaves your device except as the anonymous counts described above, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Advertising

We have applied to Google’s advertising program and are waiting to hear back. No adverts are being shown on this site yet.

Google’s advertising code is already loaded on these pages, and it can store cookies on your device whether or not an advert ever appears.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for permission before any advertising cookie is set. You can change or withdraw that permission at any time. Everywhere else those cookies are stored from the moment a page opens.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and you can opt out of other advertising companies’ cookies at aboutads.info.

If adverts do start appearing here, this page will be updated to say so.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Because we do not collect information that identifies you, there is normally nothing personal for us to show you or delete. You may be in California, the United Kingdom or the European Union and believe we hold something about you. If so, write to us and we will deal with it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
